Mathematical Modeling and Analysis
The MOF method, developed by Dyadechko and Shashkov, is a second-order accurate method of reconstructing interfaces using volume fraction and moment data for materials. This allows it reconstruct interfaces with a much higher accuracy than Volume-of-Fluid (VOF) methods that use only volume fraction data.
In this work, we have extended the MOF method for accurate reconstruction of interfaces in cells with more than two materials. The method tries different volume-preserving partitions of a cell and picks the partition that minimizes the defect in the moments of the materials. Since the number of materials in a cell is not expected to be large, this process is expected to be efficient. Tests with this method demonstrate that the method reconstructs multi-material junctions with a much higher accuracy than order-dependent VOF procedures, particularly in more complex situations.
